Obituary

Ravon "Ray" Norman Spencer, 78, of Wilmington, NC passed away on Thursday, November 10, 2022 following a lengthy illness.

Born in Laurinburg, NC on April 13, 1944, Ray was a son of the late Norman and Dorothy McNeil Spencer. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a brother Roy and half-sister Sue.

Ray proudly served his country in the US Navy. After leaving the Navy he had a varied career, though he was most proud of his time in law enforcement. He ended his law enforcement career as a detective with the Brunswick County Sherriff's Office. Ray was also a building contractor and took a lot of pride in the homes he built for others. His hobbies included woodworking, carpentry, boating and fishing, and he was most at peace in a boat out on the water.  He attended Faith Baptist Church and then Long Leaf Baptist Church. He was a man of strong faith and never missed an opportunity to share that faith with others wanting to know the love of God.

Surviving are his wife of 42 years, Joyce Stokes Spencer; sons, Christopher Spencer (Lisa), David Spencer (LaQuinsta), Allan Huntsinger; daughters, Leta Huntsinger, Shelley Register (Eric); grandchildren, Amanda Spencer (Brandon); Christina Griffin (Don), Rachel Barr (Ricky), Tyler Register (Taylor), Carley Register; great grandchildren, Brody Griffin, Rogan Griffin, Alayno Spencer and Emersyn Register.
