Michael "Mike"
Patrick Kerins
Nov 9, 1952 — May 11, 2024
Carolina Shores, NC
Michael "Mike" Patrick Kerins of Calabash Shores, NC, formerly of Sharon PA, passed away peacefully on May 11, 2024.
Mike was born on November 9, 1952 in Sharon, a son of the late Daniel Reinsel Kerins and Mary Henighan Kerins. He was a 1971 graduate of Sharon High School, and retired in 2007 after a dedicated 36 year career at Wheatland Tube Company where he was a shipping department foreman.
In his spare time Mike loved to work outdoors in the yard on various projects and was well known for having the best grass in the neighborhood, where stray leaves and sticks stood no chance at staying for long. He was a jack of all trades when it came to home improvement and always was willing to lend a hand to others, even just to turn screws or check if the Christmas lights were touching or not touching. Consistently the life of the party, "Meatman" enjoyed telling stories (mostly true, sometimes embellished as per family tradition) and always was able to make people laugh. He loved to vacation with friends, going to see live music, and could always be seen wearing the black and gold of his beloved Steelers, Penguins and Pirates.
Mike is survived by Lorie (Gillespie), his loving wife of 47 years; his son Mikey (Niki) Kerins and twin grandkids, Ryan & Remi, whom he adored, all of Charlotte.
Also surviving are two brothers, Dan (Kay) Kerins, Palm Coast, FL and Bill (Kathy) Kerins, Aurora, OH; four sisters, Kay (Dick) Santell, Hermitage, PA, Mary Lynn (Bob) Grande, North Canton, OH, Susie (Bill) Hamilton, Hermitage, and Ginny (Bill) Grunenwald, Trafford, PA; sister in law Lynne (John) Sherretts, Hubbard, OH; and 20 nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Mike was preceded in death by a brother, Jim Kerins; a sister, Peggy Elliott; a brother-in-law, Jerry Elliott; and an infant sister, Joanne Kerins.
Per family wishes, memorial contributions can be made to the Lower Cape Fear LifeCare Foundation, 1414 Physicians Drive, Wilmington, NC 28401 or online at lifecare.org/donate.
