Mary Pearl Thompkins Bellamy, 91, of Calabash, NC passed away on Thursday the tenth of February 2022 at her home.

Born in Brunswick County on the twelfth of October 1930, she was a daughter of the late Lonnie Benjamin Thompkins, Sr. and Mary Belle Hardee Thompkins. In addition to her parents, Mary was preceded by her beloved husband of 73 years, Otha Kendall "OK" Bellamy; a grandson, Jakob Bellamy; two sisters, Sydneth Earle Permenter, Ann Housand; four brothers, Lonnie Benjamin Thompkins, Jr., George V. Thompkins, Laverne Thompkins and Trenton Tompkins.

Surviving are four children, Wayne Kendall Bellamy and partner Hope, Mary Anna Gore and husband Phil Gore, Joseph Kendall Bellamy and wife Elma Gray Bellamy, Sam Kendall Bellamy and wife Sarah R. Bellamy; seven grandchildren, Brendan Bellamy, Alicia Gore, Alex Gore and wife Bridget, Ken Bellamy and wife Megan, Jason Bellamy and wife Tanya, Sallie Lun and husband A.J., Mary Katherine Davis and husband Mike; nine great grandchildren, Darby Dugan and husband Kyle, Kirby Gore, Noah Bellamy, Jesse Bellamy, Lillie Bellamy, Wells Bellamy, and Lea Davis.

She was a true example of womanhood, as a daughter, sister, wife, mother, aunt, grandmother and great grandmother. She, like her mother, was a strong woman who knew the meaning of nurturing and accepted the sacrifices that it requires. Her strength was magnified by her faith and prayer life. She believed and always said  "we are all at the mercy of the Good Lord."  As a mother you could always count on her. She was a wonderful example of a wife who was comfortable simply helping her husband but proved essential in making things happen as well as giving constructive input. Like the sixth man on a basketball team she could step up to whatever was needed. She loved her husband and shared his love of farming. It was Indigo Farms that gave her the opportunity to have a huge impact on so many people. She believed in loving God with all her heart and her neighbor as ourselves. It was this love that customers felt and were comforted by her warmth and wisdom. She enjoyed sharing recipes and interacting with customers.

More than her work, she walked humbly with God, striving to do what was right and avoid what was wrong even when it was very difficult. She was a source of comfort and counsel to many, extending to nieces, nephews, grandchildren, great grandchildren, cousins and friends. In loving people she demonstrated compassion and mercy. She  knew the need and value for tough love as well.

We can only hope that the generations to come would be able to realize the huge, rich example that is given them.

Psalm 16:11 is a fitting beginning for her... " you make known to me the path of life: in your presence there is fullness of joy: at your right hand are pleasures forevermore."

A private service will be held at the farm.
