Lori Kight
Fernandez
Jul 12, 1967 — Oct 15, 2026
Shallotte, NC
On July 12th, 1967, Lori Denise Kight-Fernandez, was born in Oakland, Maryland. She was one of the loved daughters of the late Jack Kight and Mary Louise Rhodes-Huston.
On October 15th, 2026, In a heartbreaking loss for their family, Lori passed away alongside her beloved sister, Janet Bookout. Born just eleven months apart, the sisters shared a bond that began early in life and remained with them until the very end. Just as their lives began so close together, their journeys came to an end together as well. Their family now mourns the loss of two sisters whose lives will forever be remembered and whose memories will continue to be cherished.
She was a hard-worker, dedicated, compassionate, empathetic, organized, reliable, loyal, and so much more. Lori was one of a dying breed of nurses. An exceptional one at that. She was always willing to step-in and be available. She didn’t have clients, she just had family. She cared for them as if she had known them their whole lives. Lori had given everything to her 32 years of nursing. While working as a night-shift LPN, Lori home-schooled her children until they graduated to make sure they were getting the extra academic attention they required. She was a fabulous, and amazing teacher that put her heart and soul into making her children’s education exceptional and fun.
Lori Denise Kight-Fernandez will be continually loved and missed by her friends, family, co-workers, and every other blessed soul she has come across. She will never be lost or forgotten.
Lori is leaving behind her three beloved children, Gabrielle Marie Maerten, Isaiah Lee Fernandez (Ashleigh Mae), Elijah Miguel Fernandez (Ares Marie); three brothers, Tracy Cuppett (Linda), Jack & Jay Kight; a sister, Tonya Kresila (Mark); and grandchildren, Summer, Kai, and one on the way.
A Celebration of Life service is being planned and will be announced here when the family finishes the plans. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that monetary donations be made to the funeral home to help with these unexpected final expenses. You can make those donations by calling (910) 471-5441. The family thanks you and appreciates everything.
