Obituary

Kathleen Margaret (Mageean) Boucher (12/19/1947 — 12/17/2023) Devoted wife to Neal Boucher of St. James, NC, passed away after a brief yet heroic battle with cancer. Born in Schenectady, NY, Kathleen was the oldest daughter of John & Diane Mageean of Monroe Street. She went on to graduate from Schenectady High School (previously known as Linton) in 1965 and then earned her Associate Degree from Schenectady Community College. Mother to Jason Furlani of Brooklyn, NY and Jessica (Furlani) Pugh of Weatherford, TX, Kathleen enjoyed a career in local print modeling appearing in numerous ads and runway shows before bringing her talents to the Guidance Department at Niskayuna High School where she worked until her retirement in 2003. After retirement, Kathleen decided to reinvent herself so she went back to school to earn her Esthetician license and then operated her own practice out of her home and in association with area salons until 2010. In 2011, Kathleen and Neal married and she relocated to Newport, New Hampshire to enjoy full retirement. A lover of the social scene, Kathleen and Neal played host to family and friends at their one-time B&B, Arbor Brook, where she was always at the ready with a pool-side charcuterie board and a chilled glass of white wine. Kathleen loved it most when her grandchildren came to visit so she could dote on them with extra aplomb. Upon Neal's retirement from Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center, he and Kathleen pulled up stakes in New Hampshire and relocated to their dream home in St. James, NC where Kathleen was involved in the Women's Service Club, played golf with a sense of humor we should all aspire to, and was a mean canasta player. Aside from her time in and around St. James, Kathleen loved to travel — whether it be "glam-ping" throughout the south in their pop-up camper, strolling the streets of Paris, or cruising on the Caribbean— and always with her "Neal-y" by her side. Along with her husband Neal, Kathleen is survived by her sister Eileen (Mageean) Roberts and her brother-in-law Mickey, her niece Corrina (Roberts) Heggen and husband Aaron along with their children, Miles and Isabella, her nephew John Roberts and his wife Kaitlin along with their sons Weston and Henry, son Jason Furlani and daugher-in-law, Emily, daughter Jessica (Furlani) Pugh and son-in-law, Nick, step-son Adam Boucher and daughter-in-law, Alyssa. Most importantly, Kathleen was lovingly and ubiquitously known as both Gaya and Grandma Kat by her grandchildren, Eva, Enzo, Maya, Emma, Sophie, Jillian, Meredith, & Simon whom she loved with all of her heart. If this remembrance made you smile, she would have loved that too. In lieu of flowers or card the family suggests a donation to SECU Hospice of Brunswick 955 Mercy Ln SE, Bolivia, NC 28422.
