Karen Spell Edwards, 62, of Oak Island, NC passed away on Monday, July 10, 2023 after a four year battle with cancer. a battle she was fighting before medical experts were aware she was battling this disease.  Karen was born in Guilford County, NC on October 7, 1960 and was a daughter of the late Richard Martin Spell, Sr., and Annie Lucille Proctor Spell. In addition to her parents, she was predeseased by a brother, Richard M. (Dick) Spell, Jr. Karen graduated from R.J. Reynolds High School and attended ASU, she was a loving daughter, sister, wife and mother. In her younger days she was a world class athlete earning body building championships. Karen also ran many marathons, and was a highly skilled Licensed Massage Therapist for over forty years. In addition to her many achievements, Karen also worked at The Lazy Turtle Oceanfront Grille on Oak Island, where she cherished many memories of meeting life long friends. Karen was always outgoing and saw the best in everyone she met, she was known to leave a smile on the faces of those who crossed her path.  Surviving are her husband, Sam Edwards; her son, Casey Lane Whaley; her daughter, Jessica Rose Rinciari, and her sister, Lou Ann Spell.

A Celebration of Life service is being planned and will be announced at a later date.
