Karen Elizabeth Butler, 57, passed away after a brief illness on October 22, 2022.  She was born in Kittery, Maine to James and Charlotte Butler. She grew up in Topeka, Kansas and Hampton, Virginia graduating from Kecoughtan High School in 1983.  In 1987 she graduated with a Bachelor of Arts from Hood College in Frederick, Maryland.

She is preceded in death by her parents and grandparents.  She is survived by her brothers Ronald (Lynn) and David (Debbie) and sister Allison Nelson (John) along with her beloved cat Jasmine.

Her career as a Senior Quality Assurance Manager took her all over the world with assignments on 6 of the 7 continents.  Some of her favorite experiences were going on a safari in Africa, visiting Red Square in Moscow, the food in Paris and creating international friendships.

Karen's friends were very important to her and she always managed to stay in touch no matter where she was in the world. Her thoughtfulness, dependability and genuine concern for others was always just a phone call, text or email away. She had an interest in animal welfare from a young age and continued that throughout her life rescuing multiple cats over the years.  She and Jasmine were frequent travelers to Virginia.
