Joe Paul
Watts
Sep 29, 1954 — Dec 3, 2023
Carolina Shores, NC
Joe Paul Watts, age 69, of Carolina Shores, NC passed away on Sunday, December 3, 2023 in his home following a period of declining health. Joe was born in Morganton, NC, on September 29, 1954 and was the son of the late Joseph Paul and Margaret Franklin Watts. He was a graduate of Western Carolina University with a degree in mathematics. After graduation, he taught advanced mathematics at Dalton High School in Dalton, GA. He moved back to North Carolina, where he began a career in banking before progressing to real estate as a residential appraiser. He furthered his career as a broker and owner of Hickory Home Source in Hickory, NC. His goal was to make buying and selling real estate simple for his clients, and he treasured the friendship that evolved. Upon his retirement in 2017, he and Debbie moved to Carolina Shores, NC. He was a member of the board and president of the Carolina Shores Property Owners Association. He was a member and trustee of Andrew's Chapel Global Methodist Church in Ash, NC. He was an avid fan of NASCAR and enjoyed car and air shows. He loved spending time with friends and family and playing games with his grandsons. Joe's favorite quote accredited to Albert Einstein, was "Not everything that counts can be counted, and not everything that can be counted counts." Joe believed that faith in God and love of family and friends were the foremost guiding principles of items that count but could not be counted. He approached every situation as if solving a puzzle, which upon completion, could be attributed to his quiet, calm, and methodical manner. Surviving are his wife of 46 years, Deborah Caldwell "Debbie" Watts of the home; two sons, Jonathon Watts (Michelle), Jordan Watts (Corrina), and his sister, Linda Hughes. He is also survived by grandsons Levi Watts and Steele Watts and their mother, Angela Watts. and granddaughter Mya Watts. In addition he leaves behind his very special friends Mike and Myra Thompson, nieces Shanda Adkins, Marti Franklin and Tara McGarrigan. The family will receive friends from 11:00 until 12:00 PM, Saturday December 9 with a Memorial service to be conducted at 12:00 PM in the Andrews Chapel Global Methodist Church with The Reverend John Bracey and Reverend Phil Norris officiating. Honorary pallbearers are his fellow trustees of Andrew's Chapel. The family requests with gratitude that donations be made in his memory, to Andrews Chapel Global Methodist Church, 1090 Hickman Road, NW, Ash, NC 28420 or to Veterans Welcome Home & Resource Center, 421 Highway 57 South, Little River, SC 29566, (843)-427-4568.
