James P
Shettig
Apr 6, 1953 — Sep 11, 2026
Southport, NC (St. James)
On Sept. 11th, 2026, Jim Shettig lost his nearly year-long battle with cancer. He was with his family when he passed from this world, and in recent days he heard from many family and friends from around the world; he appreciated every one of who reached out to him, to talk, to laugh, to reminisce, to see him in person. In his own words, he regretted little and had a life well lived, he traveled the world and had lots of good times.
Born in Johnstown, PA, he grew up in Ebensburg, PA, graduated from Kings Point US Merchant Marine Academy, lived in eight countries and traveled to many more.
He retired to an idyllic life of friends, family, and golf in St. James. It was “a good place to retire” as he put it.
He’s survived by his two sons, Bryan and Scott, his three granddaughters Amelia, Audrey, and Isabelle, his sisters and brothers Joan, Trish, Nancy, and Michael, and his partner of 12 years Andrea along with her three sons, Mark, Josh, and Steve. He joins his wife Micaela in heaven.
He didn’t want a big, formal funeral, instead he wanted an informal gathering at his home in Southport, NC. It will be held on Sept. 18th at 4 p.m.
It was Jim’s wish that those want to support the hospice care facility that cared for him to donate to: SECU Hospice House of Brunswick 955 Mercy Lane SE, Bolivia, NC 28422, www.lifecare.org.
