Herbert Edward
Pritchard
Oct 18, 1935 — Jan 5, 2021
Southport, NC (St. James)
Herbert E. Pritchard of Southport, NC passed away at 9:15 PM on January 5, 2021, at Lower Cape Fear LifeCare in Bolivia, NC. He was at peace and surrounded by love at the time of his passing.
He is survived by his loving wife and best friend, Laura Jean Liggett-Pritchard; his son Matthew (Susan) Pritchard Parvis, Matt's children, Ryan Pritchard Parvis, Daniel Pritchard Parvis, Lora E. Lyon, Shannon E. Boyle and eight, great grandchildren; step-son, Scott (Marisa) A. Stoolmiller, granddaughters, Rose (Dan) Broderick, and 3 great-grandchildren, Ellen Stoolmiller, Sarah Stoolmiller and Mary Grace Stoolmiller; step-daughter, Amy Lott; nephew, Thom (Kathy) Pritchard Jr., Kathy; niece, Frances Pritchard Wales.
Over the course of his life, he was active in numerous groups through his church and in the community. He retired from government employment as an Economist with the Department of Agriculture and returned to school to obtain his master's in social work. He then worked as a therapist, social worker and Stephen Minister. He volunteered with a diverse number of organizations such as Head Start, Hospice, women's shelters, mental health help lines, NARAL and voter registration. He was also an accomplished artist who enjoyed sharing his talent, humor and perspective of the world and life. Many paintings were gifted or sold to private individuals; others were shorter lived and whimsical, such as the colorful characters he painted on children's faces at community events. But his most meaningful life work are the portraits that he painted for the military families of those who had lost a loved one in combat or due to PTSD. His kindness, compassion and wicked sense of humor will be greatly missed by those who loved him and those who were supported by him in the community.
A celebration of life will be held when it is safe to gather as a group.
