Gordon (Goober, The Goob) was born to Robert J. and LaVerne F. (Walsh) Roberts on August 6, 1951 in Hackensack, NJ and left this world fairly suddenly from the SECU Hospice House of Brunswick in Bolivia, NC of metastatic cancer. He was predeceased by his mother and father and is survived by his daughter Lindsay Roberts Jolivette (Ryan) of Los Angeles, CA, his sister Susan Roberts of Charlotte, NC and her daughters Emma of Munich, Germany and Selby of Charlotte, brothers Robert J. Roberts Jr. of Boone and Ocean Isle Beach, NC and Michael J. (Mary Lou) Roberts of Colorado Springs, CO and his daughters Brooke of Colorado Springs and Emily of Chicago, IL.

Gordon was a remarkable, true individual whom many people called the most charming and entertaining person they had ever met. He was smart, witty, self-educated, and an extremely talented artist, musician, singer, and songwriter. He was a gifted athlete, excelling as a skier, surfer, and ice hockey player. He was a pole vaulter, wrestler, and diver in high school and held the pole vault record with his brother Michael for many years at Oak Hills High School in Cincinnati, OH.

Gordon spent his early years in Ridgewood, New Jersey, skiing and playing hockey in the winter, and spending many idyllic, barefoot summers with his family in Beach Haven on the Jersey shore sailing, swimming, surfing, and basking on the warm dunes. It was this upbringing that mostly determined the course of his life and brought him many life-long friends. Abandoning the stifling confines of high school in his senior year, Gordon obtained his GED and, after a surf trip to Hawaii with his brother Michael, ended up in Santa Barbara, California, playing music, surfing, sailing, and working on boats.

Gordon had many adventures up and down the coast of California and then he and his brother Michael sailed from Florida through the Caribbean down to Colombia and back again. After an extended exploration of the Caribbean islands and a brief stay Florida, Gordon ended up in Boulder, Colorado where he further explored his love of skiing. After some years in Boulder, the call of the sea brought him back to California where he lived for several years on his sailboat in Ventura.

Finally, after losing his sailboat in an unfortunate accident, Gordon headed to North Carolina where his parents had moved after he left home and he settled in Ocean Isle Beach, NC at the family beach house, affectionately known as "The Pole House." Gordon remained in Ocean Isle Beach until his death, winning many surf contests up and down the East coast, playing music in the local establishments, working on the family home, and making many lifelong friends who, along with his family, will feel his absence until they're reunited on the other side.

Gordon lived his life almost completely on his own terms and left it the same way. He will be missed forever.
