Gloria McQueen Nance, 86 of Ocean Isle Beach, NC passed away on Sunday, October 9, 2022 at her home.

Gloria was born in Greensboro, NC on April 14, 1936 to the late Ernest Brady and Ruby Smith McQueen. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Charles Mitchell Nance, Sr. Gloria graduated from Greensboro High School in 1954 and then attended UNC Greensboro School of Music and majored in voice with a minor in piano. After meeting and marrying her husband Charlie in Greensboro, they started a family and soon moved to Rutherfordton where she spent most of her life raising her children and being active in the community. She found joy singing and performing in plays and musicals and in the church choir in her younger years. She also enjoyed painting, cooking and entertaining friends and family. She was a proud member of First United Methodist Church of Rutherfordton and was formerly a member of Rutherfordton Presbyterian Church.

Surviving are a son, Charles M. Nance, Jr and wife Sheila of Calabash, NC; a daughter, Lynn Nance Langford and husband Robert of Whispering Pines, NC; a sister, Cynthia Lynn Masse; grandchildren, Dillon Nance and wife Carina of High Point, NC, Lacy Nance of Asheville, NC and Emma Nance of Calabash, NC; great grandchildren, Felix and Claire Nance; and a niece, Jessica Masse.

Graveside services will take place in Rutherfordton and will be announced at a later date.

The family requests with gratitude that any memorials be made in her name to the First United Methodist Church in Rutherfordton.
