Eliza Mae
(Higgins) Higgins
Aug 10, 1991 — Feb 6, 2022
Supply, NC
"She sought light in darkness,
Found meaning in simpleness.
The twinkle of the stars, or,
the shimmer of frost encrusted branches
in the dead of winter.
The sweet, and hearty scent of smoke
from a soot stained hearth
in the distance.
She saw through the night.
She became the moonlight."
(Eliza Higgins)
She became the moonlight.
Eliza Mae Higgins, of Supply, NC, passed away Sunday, February 6, 2022 at the Lower Cape Fear Life Care Center following a brief illness.
Daughter of the late Randy Higgins of Roseboom, NY and Susan Tirrell Knight of Supply, NC, Eliza was born August 10, 1991 in Cooperstown, NY. She attended Cherry Valley-Springfield and Cooperstown Schools as well as Milford BOCES and ultimately got her bachelor's degree in English (with honors) from SUNY Oneonta. She excelled in many areas, notably writing, soccer and acting. Among her adventures, Eliza lived in GA, NC and survived a hard winter in the wilderness of Colorado living off the grid. She was an avid writer, but her greatest strength was her compassion for others. She loved deeply and profoundly, and she held her friends dear to her heart even when distance separated. Her light remains with all she touched through her writing and in her kind words and deeds. She is survived by best friend and soulmate Michael Schnabel; her mother Susan Knight, sister, April Higgins-Garrett (Jesse) and nieces Randi and Parker; brother Shane Knight, and many uncles, aunts and cousins.
A celebration of her life will be held at a later time, and her ashes will be returned to upstate New York at a later date.
In Eliza's memory, the family asks that you love large, listen carefully and donate time, attention and essentials to local women's and domestic abuse shelters, or mental health non-profits.
