David Thompson Hart, 65, of Oak Island, NC passed away on Friday, April 14, 2023 surrounded by family following a brief battle with cancer.

Dave was born in Falls Church, VA on September 4, 1957 of the late Ralph W. and Hannah W. Hart.

Dave spent 25 years as a railroad car repairman for Amtrak and 16 years as a rural postal carrier for the US Postal Service, never turning down the opportunity to work overtime. He retired in February 2020.

He was a Harley Davidson enthusiast, loved listening to ZZ Top, and had a love/hate relationship with the Washington Redskins. Dave never met a stranger and was always willing to talk about the ins and outs of life over a cold beer. You could often find him playing first base (or in later years serving up those meatballs as a pitcher, and catcher) on the softball field. He was passionate about mowing and watering his perfect lawn, talking to those he loved on the phone, and living his life unapologetically.  To know him was to love him.

Dave is survived by his loving wife of 27 years, Kelly Ann Hart; two daughters, Charlotte (Michael), and Liza; a brother, Thomas W. Hart (Caroline) and a sister, Joyce L. Hart (Patrick Siva) as well as his nieces, Hannah, Emma and Caroline and nephew Andy, and lastly a menagerie of pets that he never wanted but loved nevertheless.

A Celebation of Dave's life will be conducted at 1:00 PM, Monday, May 8, 2023 in the Old Brick Church Cemetery, Bacon's Castle, VA.
