Obituary

David Richard "Dick" Mattingly, Jr. TSGT, USAF Retired, age 86, of Ocean Isle Beach, NC formerly of Orangeburg, SC, passed away on Friday the first of January 2021 at his residence surrounded by his loving family.

Dick was born in Peekskill, NY on the seventeenth of December 1934 to the late David Richard Mattingly, Sr and Elsie Baisley Mattingly. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son Robert "Robbie" Mattingly. He earned an associate degree in business administration. Dick was retired from the US Air Force and served in Vietnam. Although he was proud of his selfless service to his country, nothing made him prouder than the family that he and his loving wife of sixty-four years, Ann, raised together, which he always gave credit to her for that. He was attended Old Shallotte Baptist Church and regularly attended until his health declined.

Surviving are his beloved wife Ann Clifton Mattingly; children, Dave Mattingly and wife Gail of Clyde, NC, Sheila M. Dobson and Darrell Teague of Sunset Beach, NC, Ryan Mattingly and wife Kaye of Holden Beach, NC, Roger Mattingly and Sherri Sumner of Charleston, SC, Reed Mattingly and wife Heather of Chapin, SC; fifteen grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and one great great grandchild.

Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the family will have a private graveside service in the old Shallotte Baptist Church cemetery.
