David Oreste deGrandis, age 79, of Calabash, NC passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Thursday, May 30, 2024 in the McLeod Seacoast Hospital.
David was born in Torrington, Connecticut on April 15, 1945, the son of the late Armand Oreste deGrandis and Esther Nardi deGrandis. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his sister, Donna deGrandis. While living in Torrington, David was a member of the Emergency Corps, a volunteer organization of the Torrington Fire Department, earning his way to the rank of Captain. He attended all local schools and was graduated from Torrington High School in 1963.
David was a proud US Army veteran serving from 1966 to 1969. His military service was in the White House Communications Agency in Washington, D. C. Afterwards, he transitioned into the U. S. Secret Service as a Security Specialist. He had a strong career in the Technical Security Division for 28 years, retiring in 2000.
He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Roberta Noble deGrandis. He is the proud father of children Suzanne Vitello (Giuseppe), Julianna deGrandis Aviles (Michael), Adam deGrandis (Sarah) and Paul deGrandis (Meredith Murray). He is the extremely proud grandfather of Carisa Vitello, Amelia Vitello, Apollo deGrandis, Lucia Aviles, and Bernadette deGrandis. He is also survived by a brother Richard deGrandis, and nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, June 19, 2024 at 10:00 AM, in St Brendan Catholic Church, Shallotte, NC. A committal service with military honors will follow the Mass in the church columbarium.
A time of visitation with the family will be from 9:00 AM until 9:45 AM in Brendan Hall prior to the Mass.
