Catherine Diane Duncan, 72, of Supply, NC passed away on Sunday, February 12, 2023 in the Lower Cape Fear Life Care Center, Bolivia, NC following a long period of declining health.  Born in Brunswick County, NC on February 26, 1950, Diane was a daughter of the late James Palmer Clemmons and Mary Catherine Hewett Royal. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Edward Duncan, a son, Matthew S. Duncan, brothers, Charles J "Chuck" Clemmons, Gary Mark Clemmons, Richard "Ricky" Royal, Michael Royal, and sister, Cheryl Clemmons. Diane graduated from North Carolina State University.  She worked as a biologist with the US Fish and Wildlife Service, where she worked passionately to protect our natural resources.  With a specialization in environmental contaminants, she was responsible for damage assessment and cleanup efforts for sites across the state of South Carolina.  Her projects ranged from oil spills on the coast to commercial waste dumping in Lake Hartwell on the Georgia border.  She played a pivotal role in garnering federal support for the construction of the Avian Conservation Center in Awendaw, SC.  She had a great love for the natural world that God has given us, and she spent more than three decades as its faithful steward.

Survivors include her son, Martin Duncan; step-father, Palmer Rudolph Royal; brother, James "Jimmy" Clemmons and wife June, all of Supply, NC and a host of extended family members.

Memorial services will be conducted at 11 AM on Saturday, February 25, 2023 in the Supply Baptist Church with The Reverend Landis Lancaster officiating.  Burial will take place in the Galloway Memorial Cemetery, West.  The family requests that donations be made in her name to the Lower Cape Fear Life Care, "Brunswick House" at 955 Mercy Lane, Bolivia, NC 28422, www.lifecare.org or to the Supply Baptist Church, 88 Ocean Highway, East, Supply, NC 28462.
