Obituary

Carol (Bollinger) Varney, 60 passed away at her home in Carolina Shores, NC on November 8, 2023 after a brave battle with cancer. She was surrounded by her family, including her devoted husband of 39 years, David and her furry companions, Abbie and Maddie.

Born on April 7, 1963 in York, PA to Joan (Shearer) and Burnell Bollinger, Carol grew up in nearby Jacobus playing in lilac bushes and enjoying walks through the woods to the dam. After attending York College and getting married, Carol eventually settled in Bethlehem, PA. Known to her family and friends as a "walking party", Carol enjoyed reading thrillers and mysteries, traveling to Disney with friends, crafting home goods, and making any room smell good with her collection of Yankee Candles (where she worked as a manager for many years). Carol traded her winter coats for sandals when she moved to the Carolinas to be close to her grandchildren. She was the most loving Nana or "Nina" and her baking recipes will be enjoyed for generations to come. In the final years of her life, she enjoyed watching Carolina sunsets and visiting Vereen Gardens. Never one to meet a stranger, Carol always gave a warm and welcoming smile to anyone she came across on her many walks.

She is survived by her mother, Joan Bollinger of Jacobus, PA; her husband, David Varney of Carolina Shores, NC; her children Christina Hahn (Kirk) and Michelle Varney (Stephen); her grandchildren Anson Hahn, Sadie Scruggs, and Lachlan Hahn; and her brothers, Scott and Brian Bollinger. She leaves behind many family members and friends who will miss her effervescent spirit dearly.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents; father; and dogs, Sadie aka "Tinkie" and her beloved Josephine Elizabeth.
