Betty Jane Pursey, age 98, of Carolina Shores, NC passed away on Saturday, September 9, 2023, with her family by her side.

Betty was born on June 16, 1925, in Syracuse, NY and was the daughter of the late Edwin and Beatrice Chappell Hammon and sister of the late Robert Hammon. In addition to her parents and brother, Betty was preceded in death by her soulmate and husband of 64 years, Clifford G. (Bud) Pursey in 2011.

She was a graduate of Onondaga Valley Academy and Powelson Business School. Betty was a secretary before she became a homemaker and mother. She was a longtime member of Seaside United Methodist Church; her love of wildlife was exhibited through her membership of the International Association of Turtles. She was also a member and co-president of the PTA and the Tuscarora Golf Club. She was very proud of her bowling ability where she earned the New York State Bowling Championship.

Betty left to cherish her memory two loving daughters, Kim Anderson and husband Eric of Canandaigua, NY, Debbie Cole and husband George of Carolina Shores, NC; granddaughters, Dr. Rachele Anderson of Syracuse, NY, Jessica Anderson of Binghamton, NY; grandson, Andrew Cole and wife Rebecca of Red Springs, NC; devoted nephew and niece, Frank and Carol Hammon of Ocean Isle Beach, NC, special friends, Lucille Pedersen, Tina Foley and las but not least her faithful companion "Jamie".

You are invited to a celebration of life at 10:00 AM, Saturday, September 16, 2023, in the Seaside United Methodist Church Memorial Garden.
