Obituary

Arlene Catherine Walachy, 81, of Compass Pointe, Leland, NC passed away on the morning of Sunday, August 18, 2024 at her home with loving family by her side. Born in Trenton, New Jersey, on February 24, 1943, Arlene was a daughter of the late Vincent and Helen Matecki Zara. She met Michael Walachy in high school in Trenton and they were married on April 15, 1963. They welcomed their daughter Chele into the world in October 1964. The young Walachy family traveled extensively while Mike was serving in the Air Force and after his discharge from the military they settled in Palos Verdes, CA. Arlene enjoyed a long, rewarding career in the Aerospace industry as a Business Manager with TRW in Redondo Beach, CA. She was a member of the Catholic Faith and active in her St. Lawrence Parish as a Eucharistic Minister and a member of the Women's Cornerstone group. Arlene was a three time cancer survivor and she drew on this difficult life challenge and experience to counsel and console people with cancer through the Cancer Support Community in Redondo Beach, CA. She found passion in activities related to her family, travel, ballroom dancing, art projects, and taking photos of beautiful sunsets. Surviving are her beloved husband of 61 years, Michael Walachy; her loving daughter, Chele Conway and her husband, Bill; and her cherished grandchildren, Ryan and his wife, Katie, Mackenzie, and Logan. She is also survived by her siblings, Bob, Ron and his wife, Nancy, Chris and her husband, Mark, and Rodger and his wife, Genny; her sister-in-law, Rose and her husband, Larry; and many beloved nieces and nephews. A Celebration of Life for Arlene is being planned and will be announced in the near future.
